Star Trek is for nerds. The Internet is for nerds. But Newsweek?
The Enterprise is on the cover. Two articles:

Virginia Postrel has some thoughts on the glamour of Star Trek. Usually, the debate focuses on the science, or the political overtones. (See the first Newsweek article above to see Barack Obama compared to Mr. Spock. Which makes Biden…??)

Another person making the Obama/Spock connection:

Apparently, the new movie has references to Godfather II. Fascinating.

Since Ross Douthat is no longer blogging, we don’t have any current thoughts from him on the new film. He does have an old post from November:

Douthat is not a fan of time travel as a plot devise. However, he does use the Wayback Machine to find an old conversation about the film between him and Peter Suderman (hypocrite!).
Trying to find this old conversation about Star Trek is like trying to find a pair of humpback whales in the open sea. Here’s the old Bloggingheads with Douthat and Matt Y. (Douthat is in the process of being beamed out during this diavlog.) Matt Y seems not to be excited about the premise of the movie. They discuss socialist utopias:

Peter Suderman responds to the Bloggingheads:
Douthat responds to Suderman:
I’m sure there will be more the come on this topic of great social and political import.
UPDATE #1: John Podhoretz in Weekly Standard, not a review but an article.
UPDATE #2: Dreher has some Trek thoughts. He was a Spock. I kinda thought he’d be a McCoy.
UPDATE #3: Dana Stevens in Slate gives the film a thumbs up. Jeff Greenwald in Salon continues on his “Obama is Spock” meme. (SEE ABOVE)
UPDATE #4: More in the Daily Beast by Kim Masters.
UPDATE #5: Bloggingheads with Jim Pinkerton and David Corn.
